Overview & Core Mandate
Idara Tehqiq-ul-Awan (ادارہ تحقیق الأعوان — Institute of Awan Research) is a prominent genealogical, historical, and cultural research body dedicated to chronicling the lineage, heritage, and socio-intellectual contributions of the Awan tribe. Based in Pakistan, the institute acts as a central repository for indigenous historiography, family trees (Shajra-e-Nasab), and tribal documentation in Pakistan as well as other countries. The institute bridges classical Islamic history with regional ethnography, safeguarding the tribe's historical identity while promoting educational, moral, and social advancement across the community.
Primary Objectives & Research Pillars
1. Preservation of Lineage (Shajra-e-Nasab)
The primary genealogical mission of Idara Tehqiq-ul-Awan is to document and preserve the lineage connecting the Awan sub-clans to Qutb Shah (Hazrat Shah Ayyub Ibn Awn) and ultimately to Hazrat Ali ibn Abi Talib (R.A.) via non-Fatimid descent (Alvis). The institute works to Validate local family records against classical Arabic, Persian, and Urdu historical manuscripts.Correct British colonial ethnographic errors and misclassifications found in early district gazetteers.
2. Documentation of Regional Ethno-History
The institute conducts specialized research into the geography, settlement patterns, and historical landmarks across key Awan strongholds:
Soon Valley (Wadi-e-Soon) & Khushab: Documenting ancestral villages such as Khabeki, Naushera, and surrounding settlements.
Salt Range & Potohar Belt: Recording historical chiefdoms, martial traditions, and agricultural stewardship across Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Mianwali, and Azad Kashmir.
3. Highlighting Intellectual & Spiritual Figures
Idara Tehqiq-ul-Awan serves as a platform to highlight the contributions of prominent Awan scholars, literary figures, and reformers. A major focus includes preserving and disseminating the works of independent polymaths—most notably Allama Muhammad Yousaf Gabriel (1917–2006)—connecting his regional historiography with his global anti-nuclear Quranic philosophy (Al-Hutamah).
